Official launch day
Today the book was
officially launched in the presence of Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor and representatives of 8 of the 9 lives which figure
in the book. 65 people turned up to St Pauls Bookshop by Westminster Cathedral - contributors to the book, family, friends,
the publisher, and other supporters. Mike Woodward, the publisher, spoke first setting the scene with great
sensitivity to what the book had meant to him and to others, followed by Cardinal Cormac who spoke of the importance of Lourdes
to him. He told us that it started with his father who went every year for 30 years as a doctor on the National pilgrimage.
He spoke of the transformative effect of Lourdes on so many young people who have gone as helpers, and emphasised the centrality
to Lourdes of the sick. He was glad to find at the launch those who had figured as the 9 lives in the book, seen in
the photos and text below.
Catherine's and Joy Keen's book launch speeches
Sr Rose Mary representing her beloved Jane; Joe Collard was there for his special mother, Anne, along with friends and
family; Jonathan Martin came for his unforgettable brother Tim; Joanna, Richard and Jenny were Gregory's representatives
- none of us can believe that it is 5 years since he so touched our lives; Nick Renouf stepped in when Julia, his mother,
could not come to represent large-hearted Harry Hughes; Joshua was there in the flesh looking so well; Stuart is in hospital,
and our prayers are with him, but we all met Pat, his gorgeous Mum, who came from Bexhill; lastly Holly was there, with Joy,
her mother, and Angus her brother. Catherine made a speech in which she thanked Sarah Clutton, sponsor and supporter
throughout the project, Mike Woodward the publisher, and Fr Ian Byrnes from the Arundel & Brighton pilgrimage. We
have uploaded her speech, and apologise that the film camera crew got it horizontal (!), but you can see it on You Tube.
Joy Keen spoke beautiful words on behalf of the contributors to and readers of the book. Bishop Kieran sent his apologies
as he was away on holiday, as did Abigail & Ben Witchalls and Sarah Clutton. Many thanks to Stephen Moseling and to all
the staff of the Westminster Cathedral Bookshop who so kindly allowed the launch to take place there...and Monica for so much
organisational help.
